Planning

In principle, when planning the installation of solar panel modules, both in the case of new builds and also for subsequent assemblies, building physics rules (impermeability, thermal and moisture protection, ventilation gap, ageing behaviour) and the static and structural design (stability) must be observed. We recommend careful planning and organisation of the various trades involved, based on the details available, so that they are technically adapted to each other and can work according to coordinated schedules. The following basically applies: In principle, the earlier the energy generation panels are integrated into the building’s overall design, the greater the choice of possible solutions.

Unless separate evidence can be provided, energy generation panels and their fastenings must not be used as anchorage devices, anchor points or walkways. For maintenance and servicing purposes, precautions must be taken to avoid damaging the roof covering (e.g. installing safety treads).

When planning the installation of solar panel systems, careful observation of the supporting structure is recommended.

Where structural suitability permits, we recommend designing the spacing between rafters to correspond to a multiple of the roof covering — for example for the PREFA roof tile: 600 mm, 900 mm oder 1,200 mm. With proper installation of the starter strip, there is no need for additional base plates.

For above-rafter insulation systems, attention must be paid to the load-bearing capacity of the uppermost insulation layer under concentrated loads. For large insulation thicknesses with a ventilation layer above, an adjustment of the screw length and the counter-batten dimensions may be required in order to execute fastening correctly in structural terms and to safely accommodate additional loads.
